Yesterday's Child

Yesterday's baby, yesterday's child
Holds the world away with a tentative smile
If they touch you they'll hurt you
They make life so rough
When they ask you to grow up
They're askin too much
Not so long
ago pretty days you know
In a womb they call your family
Life was all alright tucked in every night
Where'd the security go
Brittle baby
cruel surprise
Cool gray morning in your eyes
The weatherman's lies were directed at you
Even skys conspire to keep you unglued
Find the world
when you were seventeen
Reaching out for a teenager's dream
Overdose of reality
But pride won't let you go home
Yesterday's
baby, yesterday's child
Yesterday's baby, yesterday's child
Yesterday's baby
Yesterday baby
my fragile friend
Make for sure out of maybe and maybe you'll win
But they stole all your horses
And they never gave you men
Yesterday's baby in pieces again
Not so long
ago
Yesterday's baby, yesterday's child
Yesterday's baby, yesterday's child
Yesterday's baby
